BUSINESS PLANNING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

"The first component of a plant is environmental analysis. you have to scan the environment because the whole purpose of a business is to satisfy the consumers who constitute the society, so by scanning the environment, you do your internal and external analysis to determine your strengths and weakness in terms of comparative advantages and competencies. Arising from your internal and external analysis and your environmental screening, you look at what will be the consequences for your own business".

"From horizon of the future, you come back to the reality of the present. What do we have on the group? Do we have the right type of plant to cope with the future? would our present set of products skill be relevant for such market? what is our best strategy for attacking the market? is the company to fight for bigger market share with new products or to  increase the volume of its existing products through a more aggressive marketing drive?"

"As part of corporate renewal, you must have a programme of new product development. you also have to look at the life cycle of the product: where are you in the life cycle of the product? is the product going to remain like this forever? Should we revamp it, relaunch it or reformulate it in the light of the future market you perceived? All these go to that element".

"Motivation is not an end  itself, it is a means to an end. therefore, whatever motivational approach you adopt must be channelled to that end".
