MASTER OF SYNERGISTIC ACQUISITIONS
Strategies that saved Dunlop
“Strategic thinking is a team
effort but CEO must do the initial thinking. If he hasn’t got the vision of
what he wants or where he wants to go, there is no way the company can get
anywhere….. It’s a team work but the CEO cannot exonerate himself from the
leadership role. When we assumed responsibilities for the management of the
company in 1991, we said to ourselves that our core business will remain the
manufacture tyres. But we must not put ourselves in a position where if
anything bad happens tyres the company
is dead. Therefore, we must grow fast in an environment that is unstable. But in
growing fast we must be very careful not to go into business just for their egoistic
value. So, we decided as parts of our vision to go for growth by expansion and acquisition
– acquisition of synergistic businesses.”
·
“Nobody would buy our tyre if the quality is not
good”. In having a successful marketing strategy, quality should be looked out
for.
·
Identifying your target audience which also
entails ensuring a balance outreach with your various customers including the
average man.
·
Identifying
your competitors.
· Ensuring effective communication between your
company and target audience through advertising and intensive marketing
· A good manager takes a final position after listening
to all views rather than being a coercive manager or a consensus manager.
